Bradford “STEERS” his way to the Sportsman National Championship
,
With the close of the third annual QSAC National Championship, we proudly crown the champions from the respective classes.
For 2019, five classes were offered for competition; Limited Sportsman, ECM (East Coast Modified), Sportsman, Grand National, and Sprint.
The Sportsman Class, sponsored by DMS Sonic Racing Chassis, saw a shift in competitors for 2019. The defending Sportsman champion, Chris Hogue, shifted his sights toward the blue plate classes for 2019. Along with 2018 winner, Scott Schramske not being in attendance, 2019 would see crowning of a new National Champion in Sportsman.
In discussions locally, we collectively tried to handicap the field of pre-registered racers. We all had different thoughts and notions but never came to a consensus agreement. In no particular order, names of Graves, DeLapp, Bradford, Raber, and Allen were brought up in conversation. As it turns out, there was indeed one who stepped-up and shined throughout the event.
A field of 13 racers would vie for the Sportsman National Championship. It was clear from early heat races that David Bradford was in the house and he had no plans of settling for anything less than the Championship. David would TQ and win both the Tuesday and Wednesday A mains setting him for the TQ slot on Friday. Heading into Friday, David Raber and Randy DeLapp were tied in points for 2nd place with Raber having the tiebreaker over DeLapp with his 2nd place finish in the Tuesday A main.
With the unfortunate arrival of rain on Friday, the A main for Sportsman was not run. Points for Friday were awarded based on their qualifying positions. With this scenario and courtesy of his two A main wins, David Bradford earned the title of Sportsman ECM National Champion.
Congratulations to David Bradford on his QSAC Sportsman National Championship.
