Hogue picks up his first “Blue Plate Special” National Championship
,
With the close of the third annual QSAC National Championship, we proudly crown the champions from the respective classes.
For 2019, five classes were offered for competition; Limited Sportsman, ECM (East Coast Modified), Sportsman, Grand National, and Sprint.
The Grand National Class, long absent from the NCS or National Championship list of offered classes was once again offered for 2019. Spurred by a conversation at MPR at the Nationals in 2018, there was A LOT of talk and speculation about whether or not this class would really gain much traction or support for the 2019 season. Co-Chairs Scott Harper and Dave Dygon collectively agreed to put stipulations on the class; #1, QSAC would sponsor the class; #2, it would require a minimum of eight (8) competitors to make it a go. As the pre-registrations would show, Grand National would indeed be back, and would end up being the second largest class at the 2019 QSAC National Championship.
A total of 15 racers would take their shot at the Grand National title. Conversations surrounded the two LPR locals being the ones to beat; Jerry Evans and Scott Harper. Time would tell shortly just who was a contender and who was a pretender.
Chris Hogue would show his run to the 2018 Sportsman National Championship was not a fluke and that his transition to the blue plate specials would carry that momentum. Chris would take wins in both Tuesday and Wednesday’s A mains. Todd Holloway was close behind heading into the Friday Finale with finishes of 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the two preliminary races. Gerald Babbitt, Jerry Evans and Randy DeLapp all showed speed too in the preliminary races.
With the unfortunate arrival of rain on Friday, the A main for Grand National was not run. Points for Friday were awarded based on their qualifying positions. With this scenario and courtesy of his two A main wins, Chris Hogue earned the title of Grand National National Champion.
Congratulations to Chris Hogue on his QSAC Grand National, National Championship.
