Greetings QSAC Members,
Below, please find the bios for our two co-chair candidates for the 2021 election. We apologize for running late presenting the candidate bios out as well as presenting the membership with the ballot for the election.
The candidates are being presented to you in alphabetical order based on last name. Without further words, here are your two candidates.
Will Landers, Alabama
“Hello fellow QSAC members. My name is Will Landers and I have been racing for 30 plus years in different forms of racing. I got involved in quarter scale racing because of the competitive nature, passion it demands of its participants, and equal playing field. I am interested in serving as co-chair because I think I can bring an interesting perspective to the table and I can be fair and open to new ideas that can grow and improve the sport, because I am a racer myself and can make fair and just decisions.
Many of you may not know that I was on my deathbed at Vanderbilt ICU for 5 weeks and I asked myself ‘if I make it out of here what is the one thing that I would like the opportunity to do and enjoy again?’ and quarter scale racing was the first thing that popped into my head, because I have enjoyed it and made many lifetime friends throughout the country. The first thing I did when I came home was to join QSAC and buy a chassis to get back into the sport. It is the best form of RC racing on the planet, in my opinion. I feel like I am a good candidate because I am disabled/retired and I have plenty of time to devote to this position. I love to travel to different tracks when I have the chance, so that I can meet fellow racers and experience different facilities. My main goal is to see the sport thrive and grow. Given the opportunity, I will do the best I can for the members and the organization as a whole.
Sincerely, Will Landers”
Erik Muir, South Carolina
“I have been racing in R/C since 1990. I started with 1/12th scale mod oval at Fulton Hobbies in Wheeling West Virginia. Racing both 1/12th mod and 1/10th mod oval until 1993 when I joined the US Navy. While in the Navy I raced at Small Car Unlimited in Jackson, MS when in technical school in Meridian, MS which was a high banked concrete oval engineered as a replica of Talladega. Moved the Treasure Island, Ca and raced 1/10th stock oval at Sheldon’s Hobbies, Lodi, and an oval track in San Diego when my ship cruised to San Diego on a mission. This was in the heyday of 1/10th NASCAR oval on the West Coast and the transition from wide pan chassis to narrow.
In 1994 I took orders to New Orleans, LA. I was instrumental in the development of an indoor oval track owned and operated by Ken Bassett. Ken was the president and director of NORRCA on the West Coast and ran multiple series during the 1990’s. I became the race director of K&B Hobbies indoor track when we built it as well as the Velodrome in Baton Rouge, LA. I won the multiple State and National races at the Velodrome and the indoor track in this time period. I traveled to the Sugar Bowl in 1995 to run to Oval Masters as well as Small Cars Unlimited to race against very good competition on a national scale. I was mentored by Tony Stepp who at the time was also a 1/4 scale racer from the 1990’s.
Moving to Greenville, SC in 1997 with the US Navy I raced at Berea until it closed and raced at Easley when it opened on the 1/4 scale track with a 1/10th when I could. I bought an old 1/4 scale and practiced at times until I purchased the last generation of 1/4 scale Raco’s. After many failed attempts to race, no assistance, help or support I sold the cars and went Go Kart racing with my daughters.
Throughout the time frame from 2000 to 2019 I raced radio controlled 1/10th oval winning a couple State titles at Easley along the way, Racing an Oval Masters, Nationals at SandHills, Clover, Mooresville, NC and other venues but was not able to race weekly nor consistent with daughters in sports, college, and coaching girls softball.
In the summer of 2019 with both daughters graduated from College I bought a new 1/4 scale and began practicing at Easley reaching out to Tom Standridge and others for help with the hobby. We have been able to revive 1/4 scale at Easley and continue the growth through the challenges of 2020 and continue to grow. I have become the De facto race director and we have an awesome group at Easley and racers from many States away come to race with us due to our environment.
My other hobbies include coaching college softball at Clemson University. I have been coaching at many levels for 15 years. I started the Club Softball program at Clemson University in 2012 and have consistently been in the top 10 in the country and won the World Series in 2021.
After 22 years in the United States Navy Reserve, serving in Afghanistan in 2013/14 having 24 military and TCN’s working in my direct charge I received multiple awards and medals accomplishing missions on multiple forward operating bases in Afghanistan.
I am looking forward to serving as your QSAC co-chairman.
Erik M. Muir”
We would also like to take this time to remind members to take the time to complete the ballot. For 2021, we have included a vote for a change to the bylaws; it is a simple change pushing the election start date further into July. We would also like to remind our members that the survey questions are just that; questions. One of the best ways to be involved in the organization is to communicate and provide your input. We look forward to reading the responses to the survey as well as reading any additional comments or feedback you may share with us.
We hope the membership is enjoying the summer and continuing to stay safe and healthy. Do not forget, the 2021 FIVE STAR HOBBIES QSAC Dirt National Championship is less than three weeks away! Best wishes of safe travel and great racing to those planning to attend. Mike Willmann has been preparing and getting things lined-up to host a great dirt national championship this year!
Thank you,
Denny Andrews Jr.
