Greeting QSAC members,
On behalf of QSAC leadership, it is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of one of our members; Rick Liehr Sr.
Rick Lieht Sr. was both on July 25th, 1944. Mr Liehr passed away on January 25th, 2022. Mr. Liehr was the father to Rick Liehr Jr. and Kathy Allshouse, and grandfather to Gabby Allshouse. To say he was a family man, and dearly loved his family would be an understatement. To see an image of Mr. Liehr and Gabby was to see true, genuine love between a grandfather and a granddaughter; the smile on his face spoke volumes of his love for Gabby and their time together, no matter where that time was spent.
Mr Liehr grew up in Barberton, OH and lived his entire life in Ohio. Mr. Liehr had a love of quarter scale and quarter scale racing. Mr. Liehr also had a love for the people involved with quarter scale racing. Whether it was working with Rick Jr. on his quarter scale race cars, or serving as a crew chief for Gabby with her quarter scale, Mr. Liehr was unwavering in his help and support of his son and granddaughter’s quarter scale racing efforts. I think it is safe to say the results speak for themselves as there are plenty of plaques and awards for their accomplishments. In communicating with Rick Jr., he had this to share “Yeah, we lost the best R/C crew chief out there.”
Mr. Liehr also spent considerable time helping produce and build some of the Vision chassis’ that are produced by Freddie Miavitz at JR Quarterscale. If you run a Vision, you can be pretty confident Mr. Liehr had his hand in getting it completed.
I always affectionately referred to Rick Liehr Sr. simply as “Mr. Liehr”. I am not certain why or how that came to be; it very well could have been courtesy of Earl Clement, and me simply following Earl’s lead? No matter how it came to be, from my point of view, Mr Liehr definitely deserved the respect of the formality of being called “Mr. Liehr”.
Please keep Rick Jr., Kathy , Gabby and their entire family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through the grieving process.
Thank you, Mr. Liehr, for having a positive impact on your family and for the joy and success you helped foster through your helping Rick Jr. and Gabby in their quarter scale racing endeavors. Your presence will be missed at the track; may you Rest In Peace, Mr. Liehr.
With deepest condolences,
Joe Brooks
