Greetings QSAC members,
Host Track for the 2023 QSAC Paved National Championship
We are pleased to share with the membership the news that Mountain Valley R/C will host the 2023 QSAC Paved National Championship. The event is set of June 5th through June 9th, 2023.
Mitch Kendall has built what is arguably one of the nicest tracks in the country. Mountain Valley R/C is located in Martinsville, VA. Anyone familiar with racing and NASCAR are certain to know the Martinsville; and yes, it’s THAT Martinsville. This is a very picturesque part of the country as well as having a close proximity to other historical locations like Stuart, VA, which is the home of the Wood Brothers and their museum.
The track at Mountain Valley R/C is a banked concrete track with the track being somewhat “egg” shaped, in similarity to the full scale Darlington Raceway in Darlington, SC. One of the great attributes of the concrete surface is that it stays fairly consistent throughout the day; not going through heavy swings with changes in sunlight/shade and air temperature as compared to traditional asphalt. You can find some of the track details at the following link on the www.qsac.org website: Mountain Valley R/C
2017 seems like just yesterday….
It’s hard to believe we have already completed five QSAC National Championships (damn that COVID…, we could have completed six). We think it is fair to say that the overall response and enthusiasm for the event is strong. We, along with others in leadership, are evaluating the format and itinerary for 2023 as we want to make sure we are not stagnant and are doing our best to make this event an enjoyable time of racing and fellowship. Thank you to all of our members that have participated in any of the QSAC Paved National Championships. Your support and involvement makes it all worth the time and effort.
What’s next for the Paved National Championship?
Following the 2023 event, QSAC will be at a point where all tracks that have expressed an interest in hosting the QSAC Paved National Championship will have had an opportunity to host. In the coming weeks, we will be sending out a letter to all current QSAC Sanctioned Tracks inquiring about their interest in hosting the QSAC Paved National Championship in the coming years. Once we have received responses from the tracks, we will evaluate and establish a path going forward. This path will be heavily dependent which and how many tracks show an interest in hosting.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to either one of us, or any other member of the QSAC leadership group.
We wish everyone a safe and happy 4th of July this coming week. Stay safe, and keep the shiny side up!
Thank you,
Todd Bishop
