2022 QSAC Rules Package Release and Update Announcement – QSAC Updates – QSAC | Quarter Scale Auto Club

 Greetings QSAC members,

We will be releasing the 2022 QSAC Rules Package by January 5th, 2022.  The 2021 QSAC Rules Package has been archived on the website.  If you would like to view that edition, or any other previous editions of the rules package dating back to the year 2000, they are available through the following link (https://qsac.org/rules).  Additionally, the 2022 QSAC Dirt Track Rules Addendum will be released by the end of January 2022.  There are necessary refinements needed for the QSAC Dirt Track Rules Addendum that are not yet completed.

The 2022 QSAC Rules Package will see the completion of Phase II of the rules reformatting effort.  Phase II was focused on Sections 1 through Section 7.  These seven sections do not go into the technical rules or class specific rules, so we felt the end of Section 7 was a logical place for Phase II to end.

What changed with the completion of Phase II?  References to “frequency clips” were removed.  Further clarification and definition were added regarding the QSAC no smoking policy (see Section 3.13 and the newly added line 3.13.1).There were numerous grammatical and typographical items that were corrected.  In places where there was ambiguity, clarity was provided.  At the end of the 2022 QSAC Rules Package, there is a generic “Change Record” that highlights the changes.  Additionally, all previous editions of the QSAC Rules Package are available for viewing on the QSAC website https://qsac.org/rules).We believe we have been thorough in our efforts, but we are human, and sometimes things are missed or overlooked.  If you find an error, please contact Todd Bishop, Will Landers or Joe Brooks.

None of this would be possible without dedicated members or our organization.  Thank you to our current Co-Chairs, Todd Bishop and Will Landers; previous Co-Chair, Denny Andrews Jr.; Competition Chair, Mike Sadler; and Rules Chair, Brad Boling.  These individuals contributed a great deal of time and effort to help Phase II come to completion.  Your time and effort is greatly appreciated.

While we had originally thought the re-formatting effort could be done in two phases, it was just not feasible with everyone’s time constraints.  Looking ahead, Phase III will be started at some point this coming spring of 2022.The intent of Phase III is to eliminate as much redundancy as possible while maintaining the context and intent of the rules we have in place at this time.  From a document maintenance point of view, there are numerous opportunities in the remaining sections of the rules package.

A couple of areas of opportunity would be the “FUEL”, “ENGINE”, and “CARBURETOR” sections and references.  Using “FUEL” as an example, currently, Section 8.9 provides thorough definition of what fuel is allowed along with what is not allowed.  Ideally, this should be all that is needed.  However, Section 9.7 in Grand National has a line stating “Gasoline only.”  Objectively line 9.7 is of no value and offers an opportunity for error in the future should something change with regard to fuel.

Another example would be the Section 8.15, Tires and Wheels.  While the details are outlined and thorough, Todd Bishop suggested a great idea of creating a chart that outlines things along with a cross-section visual of a tire so that further clarity can be provided regarding tire measurements and requirements.  Similar to the “FUEL” reference above, Sections 14.20 and 14.21 offer more/different tire and wheel information.  The goal is to each technical item have its own dedicated section and be explicit in what is required for a given class.

These are just two examples, but I hope you can get the gist of where we are intending to go with the Phase III effort.  Our ultimate goal is to provide a rules package that is easy to read, easy to navigate, easy to reference in communication, and easy to maintain and update.

Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Thank you,
Joe Brooks – QSAC Webmaster
