FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Greetings QSAC Members
In recent days, a topic was brought up in a 1/5 scale oval thread regarding the availability of a “D-BOX”, better known as a drift box. One response from an individual provided the following statement “I know people in ¼ scale that run it, and nobody knows, and they are kicking everyone’s a$$, haha”.
In the 2019 QSAC Rules Package, page 17, under the section titled “MISCELLANEOUS” (on the upper right-hand portion of the page), bullet point 1. clearly states the following:
“1. No electronic device may be used in any class unless specified in the Technical Specifications for that class. Examples: rate gyros, moveable ballast, any electronic or electrical adjustment device other than one or two steering and one or two throttle / brake servos.
2. One battery powered tool per pit position is permitted for changing of tires, etc., during a race.
3. On-board tachometers are permitted in all classes.
4. Onboard telemetry is NOT permitted in any class.
5. Kill Switches are permitted in any class
6. Drilling the clutch bell housing is allowed for heat reduction or shoe removal.”
Line item #1 pointedly states that the use of something of the nature of a “D-Box” is NOT legal. Please note that a “D-Box” is essentially a gyro for all practical purposes of conversation.
To further solidify the organization’s point of view of this rule, and the possible violation of this rule, the following is considered to be effective immediately:
Any individual participating in a QSAC sanctioned event that is caught using a D-Box/Gyro/Traction Control/Steering Aid will receive a one-year ban from QSAC. Furthermore, reinstatement will be evaluated by the Co-Chairs and Board of Directors before the individual will be allowed to become an active member.
Per the Preface at the beginning of our organization’s By-Laws, the following is stated: “The Quarter Scale Auto Club (QSAC) is a non-profit corporation chartered in the State of Michigan. QSAC’s purpose is to provide a sanctioning body to organize and direct the sport of quarter scale radio controlled racing in the United States.
The primary functions of the organization are to provide establishment and uniform enforcement of safety and competition rules, liability insurance for the membership, and the promotion and growth of the sport through a strong, fair and unbiased management organization.”
The nature of competition; racer versus racer, tuning to their best ability, and subsequentially racing on an even playing field is what QSAC is at stake here; “…uniform enforcement of safety and competition
rules…”.
We, the Co-Chairs, along with incoming Co-Chair Denny Andrews Jr., have been in discussion about this topic including our National Tech Director, Todd Holloway. The four of us stand united in our viewpoint regarding this rule and its subsequent enforcement moving forward.
Bottom line; if you are or have been using it, you need to stop. If you are caught, you will receive a one-year ban from QSAC.
