Texas Gentelman, Gerald Babbitt, brings Sprint National Championship home to the Lone Star State
,
With the close of the third annual QSAC National Championship, we proudly crown the champions from the respective classes.
For 2019, five classes were offered for competition; Limited Sportsman, ECM (East Coast Modified), Sportsman, Grand National, and Sprint.
Heading into the 2019 QSAC National Championship, there were two storylines that were drawing the attention of racers; the passing of sprint car regular J.R. “The Tube Framed Terror” Parsley, and the new sprint car offering from WCM, the JP-55 (named after an inspirational force and longtime WCM supporter, J.R. Parsley).
The Sprint Class, sponsored by WCM, would see the largest amount of participants as a total of 18 racers would take to the track to become Sprint National Champion.
Early signs showed that the new WCM had some strong potential in the capable hands of Chris Hogue, Alex Livingston, Todd Holloway, Scott Rance and the Wachter’s. However, other racers driving tried and true Predators (David Bradford and Jim Patton), along with racers from the DieTech camp (Gerald Babbitt, Tanner Albert, and Mike Sadler) would show their prowess wheeling their respective sprints and bringing home the Sprint National Championship title.
Out of the gate, Chris Hogue looked to be on-point and ready to bring home the checkered flag leading most of the first 60 plus laps of the A main. However, a late-race gremlin relegated Chris to a 5th place finish. Gerald Babbitt took over the lead late and never looked back taking the Tuesday A main win. Alex Livingston came home second with David Bradford filling out the top three. Wednesday’s A main would be a battle between Gerald Babbitt and David Bradford with Bradford pulling out the win with Gerald close behind in 2nd and Tanner Albert filling out the top three. Heading into the Friday Finale, Gerald held a one-point advantage over David.
With the unfortunate arrival of rain on Friday, the Friday Finale A main for Sprint was not run. Points for Friday were awarded based on their qualifying positions. With this scenario and courtesy of his A main win and an A main 2nd place finish, Gerald Babbitt earned the title of Sprint National Champion. It would have been exciting to see Bradford and Babbitt battle it out, but we’ll look to Dallas in June of 2020 to see if they can muster a re-match effort.
Congratulations to Gerald Babbitt on his QSAC Sprint National Championship.
