Indiana’s finest next generation quarter scale racer: Jarrett Raber

​In 2018, Jarrett Raber earned the Busch Class Championship his first year competing what was formally known at the Tri-State Series.

Jarrett Raber; second generation quarter scale racer and son of long-time quarter scale racer Dave Raber. Jarrett hails from Goshen, IN.  At the time of this interview, Jarrett was 15 years old.

The following is a transcript of our electronic interview. Jarrett is a bright young man, and a steady hand behind the controller. He is definitely a force to be reckoned with on the track, and a fine young gentleman as well.

Joe Brooks: What is your full name?
Jarrett Raber: Jarrett David Raber

Joe Brooks: What is your full name?

JB: Is there any special tie-in with your first name?
JR: My dad’s favorite driver was Dale Jarrett. He thought Jarrett would make a cool first name.

JB: What is your age?
JR: 15

JB: What grade are you currently in?
JR: 9th

JB: Is there a scholastic subject that is of great interest to you?
JR: English, I like to write stories and read.

JB: At what time/age did you first start to have an interest in racing?
JR: 2015

JB: At what age did you first attempt to drive an RC car?
JR: 8 years old. My car was a Losi Mini Slider. It was at Summit Raceway in Ft. Wayne IN.

JB: What other hobbies or interests do you have outside of racing quarter scale?
JR: Basketball and video games. I played basketball in Jr High & play in a league. My favorite video game is NBA2K.

JB: Who is someone you look up to in the quarter scale community?
JR: My Dad. (Editor’s note: GREAT ANSWER)

JB: What do you find most appealing or of interest to you in racing quarter scale?
JR: The competition. I like when there’s action and the race is interesting.

JB: What do you find the most challenging about racing quarter scale?
JR: Not making mistakes. You can have a really good race and make one mistake that ruins your race.

JB: To date, what is your biggest accomplishment in quarter scale racing?
JR: Having fun.

JB: Your dad is a successful quarter scale racer; what inspiration has he given you since you first started racing quarter scale?
JR: To race smart and to be patient.

JB: I had the pleasure of meeting you at MPR; what other tracks have you visited?
JR: Lansing and Ingalls.

JB: And what track do you enjoy racing the most?
JR: Lansing

JB: Recently, you brought home a feature win at the Tri-State Series event at Ingalls. How did that first big win make you feel?
JR: I felt good because I didn’t make any mistakes that cost me the win.

I think it’s safe to say we have a solid young racer in the mix. It will be fun to watch Jarrett grow and mature even further in his quarter scale racing ventures. Thank you to Jarrett and Dave Raber for allowing this interview and their patience in dealing with the interview process.

Crossing the line in 1st!

Here is Jarrett in victory lane at the Mini Mad House as he brings home his first win in Limited Sportsman after stepping up from running Busch(hhhhhh) in his rookie season.

This was the opening event at IQSR for 2019. At this rate, Jarrett is setting the bar high for newcomers to quarter scale.

Editor’s note: Jarrett’s father, Dave Raber, brought home 1st place in Sportsman providing a Raber Sweep at Ingalls.
