Greetings QSAC members:
In light of recent discussion revolving around the implementation and use of a “splitter” on the front end of a stock car body (whether that be in Limited Sportsman, Sportsman, or Grand National), we took the time to discuss and evaluate the matter.
Having discussed this for a period of time, we would like to provide clarification and share our interpretation of the legality of the splitter. Based on our reading of, the interpretation of, and our understanding of the rules package as it exists and is written for the 2019 season, we are issuing a ruling statement that splitters are NOT legal for competition in QSAC sanctioned events. In our evaluation of the rules, we acknowledge that there is no clear statement in favor of, or against the use of a splitter. However, we view and believe the rules to be such that an open interpretation is not an acceptable method by which to read these rules (in other words, just because it does not say you cannot , does not mean that you can or should be able to do “X”).
Additionally, and for further clarification, the only thing allowed to be added to the body is a spoiler. The addition of anything considered to be aero-related, (examples include, but are not limited to a diffuser, or a shark fin), is NOT allowed.
Please note: repairs to a damaged body are allowed (examples include tape, glue, rivets, and nuts/bolts). Stickers, graphics, and decals are allowed and are exempt scrutiny.
These discussions and actions are not taken light-hearted; we believe this decision is in the best interest of all QSAC members and manufacturers.
Thank you,
Scott Harper
